BOLTON MUSEUM AQUARIUM

Situated in the centre of Bolton and part of the museum, this small aquarium has a collection of freshwater and estuarine fish from around the world. It houses the best collection of Malagasy fish in the British Isles, some of which are now extinct in the wild.

The aquarium has 20 display tanks and 85 tanks for the breeding and conservation of threatened species. As a member of FAITAG, the aquarium holds over 20 species of fish from the IUCN list of threatened species. These include goodeids and cichlids from Mexico, halfbeaks and rainbow fish from Indonesia and of course the Madagascan killifish and cichlids.

New for 2004
An African Swamp display with Polypterus ornatipinnisand several species of killifish.

How to get there
The aquarium is situated in the town centre, behind the town hall, five minutes' walk from bus and train stations.
